From researching a range of indie and alternative artist websites, I found that they focus on creating a strong visual identity rather than looking overly commercial. Instead of using bright colours and busy layouts, they often use minimalist designs, muted colour palettes and high-quality photography/ videos on the opening background to reflect the artist’s personality and music. I noticed that many websites prioritise mood and storytelling through large images, simple navigation and consistent branding.
For my own website, I want to create an immersive experience that feels authentic to the indie/alternative genre. I plan to use a clean, editorial-style layout, professional photography and a consistent colour scheme to reinforce my artist’s identity. I will also include key conventions such as a music section with tour dates, merchandise, social media links and an artist biography. By following these conventions, I aim to meet audience expectations whilst effectively promoting my artist across different media platforms.
